BASIC RULES OF THE GAME
Ball Size U8 and younger use size 3 U10-U12 use size 4 U14-U19 use size 5
Number Of Players In standard game rules, the maximum number of players per team is 11, one player is designated as the goal keeper. However, we at AYSO allow games to be played with 7 per team. This is to help in the development of a player’s skill. Number of players on the field by age division U5 = 7 vs 7 U10 = 7 vs 7 U6 = 7 vs 7 U12 = 9 vs 9 U8 = 7 vs 7 U14 = 11 vs 11
A soccer game may not start unless each team has at least 7 players. A game can be forfeited if a team does not have at least 7 players. Substitutes A substitution is a change or rotation of players on the sideline with players on the game field. A list of player names must be submitted to the referee prior to the start of each game. Only players on this list can be substituted. AYSO allows unlimited substitutions as long as each player gets to play at least half of the time (two quarters). Substitutions are permitted at half time and for injured players. Substituted players may not reenter the game until the next substitution. Goalkeeper substitution A field player may change places with the goalkeeper when the game is stopped. The referee must be told of the change. If the referee is not told, both players will be cautioned by the referee. |
